Frequently Asked Question
How can I test my own domain?
Last Updated 12 days ago
We have a server script that runs every hour, that script will send an email to the domain admins if your domain DNS MX record is wrong, if your domain DNS MX record was wrong and you fixed it, it will also send an email to the domain Admins when the DNS MX record is correct. Keep in mind that it make take up to one hour before you get the result of our own testing script, telling if your DNS MX is corrected or not. If you don't want to wait or if you if need more testing, see below for some other pages with testing tools.
NEW RULE! You must do checks 1 to 4 for your domain, the first time you set it up , otherwise we may remove the domain from your account*. You can find the checks 1-4 below, the other checks are just bonus tests.
*=since this is a new rule you have until September 1 2025 to verify them.
Third party testing tools (for both DNS MX and other tests)
1. Check your DNS MX record - you enter: "yourdomain.com" and it should find "db1.countermail.com"
https://mxtoolbox.com/MXLookup.aspx
2. Check your TXT/SPF record - you may need to enter "txt:yourdomain.com" and it should find this:
"v=spf1 include:_spf.countermail.com mx ~all" (including the doublequotes)
https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=txt:countermail.com (change countermail.com to yourdomain.com)
3. Check your DMARC record - (sometimes you need to enter: _dmarc.yourdomain.com to be able to find this:
"v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; rua=mailto:postmaster@countermail.com; aspf=s; adkim=s; fo=1;"
The doublequotes (") are usally needed!, the rua=mailto: above should be postmaster@countermail.com
https://dmarcly.com/tools/dmarc-checker
4. Check your DKIM record - enter yourdomain.com as domain and "default" as the Selector, then click Check DKIM
https://dmarcly.com/tools/dkim-record-checker
The reason to verify these basic checks is to make sure the emails will be delivered and also not end up in the Spam-folder.
Other checks:
https://www.dnsqueries.com/en/mx-lookup.php
https://dnschecker.org
https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/checkmx/
Many of the testing sites above have different types of test, not only DNS MX, but DNS MX is the first test you should do to be able get your email directly to our server and into your account.
